The Lincoln County Amateur Radio Club (K1LX) hosts its annual Windsor Hamfest at the Windsor Fairgrounds, about nine miles east of Augusta on Route 32. The gates open at 8am and the hamfest runs until noon, rain or shine. The heart of it is the tailgate flea market — used gear, parts, antennas and radios sold out of trunks and truck beds. Sellers pay no table fee beyond the $10 admission, no tables are provided, and vendors can start setting up at 7am. Admission includes hot coffee or bottled water. FCC amateur radio license exams run at 9:30am in the Roadhouse for newcomers and for operators upgrading, with walk-ins welcome. A Meeting of the Nets follows at 10am in Beano Hall, and the PenBay group demonstrates a mobile station setup at 10:30am. A GOTA (Get On The Air) station lets visitors put a signal out for themselves, and there are door prizes and concessions on the grounds through the morning. Talk-in is on 146.985 (PL 136.5) and 146.520 simplex. All proceeds support the nonprofit club's work promoting amateur radio in midcoast Maine.
